Dr. Ananyo Banerjee |
Dr. Ananyo Banerjee is a Principal Investigator at MxV Rail and also the manager of the non-destructive examination and metallurgy group and leads various research projects on rails, rail welding, wheel-rail interface, and other track components. He has written more than 60 technical articles including peer-reviewed journal papers, magazine articles and articles at international and domestic conferences. He has presented his research on rails and rail welding in International Heavy Haul conferences in Norway, Brazil and in World Congress of railway research conferences in England and Japan.
In 2023, he was selected as one of the 25 emerging railway experts under the age of 40 also known as “Fast Trackers” in the railroad industry by Railway Age magazine published in the United States. Dr. Banerjee holds a PhD degree in Materials Science and Engineering and a Master’s degree in Mechanical engineering, both from Michigan Technological University. He did his Bachelors degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Jadavpur University in Kolkata and was the recipient of the silver medal for standing second in the order of merit in his Bachelor’s degree. One of his hobbies includes spending time teaching children and youth of all ages about the basics of engineering and track safety. He was recently invited by IIT Roorkee and few otherprivate universities in India to present seminars on the prospect of metallurgical engineering in railways and the current research thrust areas in rail metallurgy. He is an active member of the American Society for Metals and AREMA Committee 4- Rail.
He joined Transportation Technology Center Incorporated in 2015 which was rebranded as MxV Rail in 2021. MxV Rail is a subsidiary of the Association of American Railroads (AAR) and conducts research and testing of all AAR member railroads in North America.
