In a significant boost to India’s transportation manufacturing sector, Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), a leading public sector enterprise, is set to establish a state-of-the-art metro rail coach and rolling stock manufacturing facility in Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh. The project involves a major investment of ₹1,800 crore, reinforcing India’s ‘Make in India’ mission and strengthening domestic production of high-speed rail and metro components.
The announcement was made during Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav's official visit to Bengaluru, where he handed over the land allotment documents for the new plant. The facility will be developed on 60 hectares (148 acres) of land in Umaria village, Goharganj tehsil, which was approved by the state cabinet.
“They will now manufacture Vande Bharat coaches in Madhya Pradesh, just like they do in Bengaluru,” said CM Yadav, highlighting the strategic importance of the project for regional development and national rail infrastructure.
Boost to India's Rail Manufacturing Ecosystem
The new BEML plant is expected to play a crucial role in the production of high-speed rail and metro coaches, significantly increasing the company's capacity to meet growing demand across India’s expanding urban mobility networks. The unit will cater to large-scale transport projects, ensure faster delivery timelines, and help address the surge in urban infrastructure development.
This strategic investment is aligned with the Government of India’s vision to enhance railway modernization, foster regional industrialization, and create employment opportunities in Madhya Pradesh.
BEML’s Growing Footprint in India
Headquartered in Bengaluru, BEML Limited is Asia’s second-largest manufacturer of earthmoving and heavy machinery, and a key supplier of metro and railway coaches, mining, and defence equipment. The company has been rapidly expanding its manufacturing footprint across India.
In a separate development, on May 9, BEML announced the acquisition of 100 acres of land in Janjgir-Champa, Chhattisgarh, at a symbolic cost of Re 1 per acre, demonstrating strong state-level support for industrial growth.
High-Level Investor Engagement in Bengaluru
During his Bengaluru visit, CM Yadav also engaged with key investors across sectors including IT, electronics, defence, manufacturing, and tourism. He showcased Madhya Pradesh's industrial ecosystem, favourable policies, and emerging potential as an investment destination. The Chief Minister also toured BEML’s campus and participated in the inauguration of the 2,100th metro coach, a major milestone for the company.
Strategic Importance
The new BEML facility in Madhya Pradesh will:
- Accelerate production of metro and high-speed rail coaches
- Support major infrastructure projects across India
- Promote self-reliance in transport manufacturing
- Generate local employment and spur regional economic development
- Enhance BEML’s ability to deliver faster and at greater scale
This landmark investment reinforces BEML’s commitment to shaping the future of public transportation in India, while supporting national goals of industrial growth, sustainability, and infrastructure expansion.
