Praveen Kumar is a seasoned civil engineer and infrastructure leader currently serving as the Managing Director of the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL). An officer of the Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE) from the 1989 batch, he brings over three decades of rich experience in railway infrastructure development, planning, procurement, execution, and project management.
He holds degrees in Civil Engineering from IIT Roorkee and a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Policy and Management from MDI, Gurugram. Over his distinguished career, Mr. Kumar has played a key role in several large-scale infrastructure projects, including land acquisition, international procurement, and coordination with multilateral funding agencies such as JICA and the World Bank.
Before assuming charge as MD in August 2024, he served over ten years in DFCCIL in various senior roles, contributing significantly to the execution of India’s ambitious freight corridors. He has been instrumental in the commissioning of the Rewari–Dadri section, a critical link between the Eastern and Western DFCs.
Under his leadership, DFCCIL is transitioning into a full-fledged operations-based organization, currently handling over 700 freight trains daily. He is also actively driving the development of Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals to enhance logistics efficiency and boost freight movement across the country.
His tenure as Managing Director is set until September 30, 2026, during which he continues to spearhead transformative changes in India’s freight and logistics landscape.
